Today is World Autism Awareness Day. The aim of observing this date is to provide help and increase understanding for individuals with autism, offering them support worldwide.
Autism, or Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), refers to a wide range of conditions characterized by challenges with social skills, repetitive behaviors, speech, and nonverbal communication. The ways in which people with autism learn, think, and solve problems can vary from highly skilled to severely challenged. Some individuals with autism may need significant support in their daily lives, some may need less support, while others can live completely independently.
Signs of autism usually appear by the age of two or three. Some associated developmental delays may occur even earlier, and it is often possible to diagnose autism as early as 18 months. Research shows that early intervention leads to positive outcomes later in life for individuals with autism.
